A Brief History of A1 Office Concepts

Chicago 1952 Goes by our Store in Hawthorne California
1952 - Joseph Gillies, owner of North West Office Equipment in Chicago purchased Hawthorne Typewriter
in Hawthorne California and changed the name to A-1 Office Equipment.
1965 - Joseph sold A-1 to his sons Vern and Wally.
1966 - Wally was killed in a tragic automobile accident. Wally was instrumental in bringing office furniture into A-1's product mix.
1966 to 1991 - A-1 was owned and operated by Vern Gillies. During that time Vern grew the company from a typewriter sales and repair shop to a full line commercial and retail office supply/furniture dealer.
1991 - Vern sold his interest in A-1 to his sons Scott, John and Doug.
1993 - Scott moved his family to Arizona.
1999 - John moved his family to Arizona. A-1 moved to Torrance California and shifted it's focus away from retail store sales to commercial office supply/furniture sales.
2005 - A-1 Office Equipment started Doing Business As A1 Office Concepts in Torrance California.
2007 - A1 Office Concepts joined TriMega Purchasing Association.
2010 - A1 Office Concepts moved to San Pedro
Today - A1 Office Concepts is currently owned and operated by Doug Gillies (3rd generation).
A-1 Office Equipment DBA A1 Office Concepts has been serving Southern California with quality products at competitive prices since 1953.
